Vuvuzela Nation
Zapiro’s “Vuvuzela Nation” Sports Cartoon Anthology - My first collaboration with internationally renowned, master cartoonist Jonathan Shapiro (better known as Zapiro) on his first ever sports cartoon anthology, published by Jacana Media. I digitally coloured in a total of 12 of Zapiro’s cartoons for both the publication and limited edition artist’s prints. The project signaled the start of a collaboration that still continues to this day.
I have worked as Zapiro’s digital colourist since 2013 after Vuvuzela Nation was published and have coloured the covers for both of his cartoon anthologies My Big Fat Gupta Wedding and Democrazy. I also coloured two cartoons of Zapiro’s specifically for the cover of the Mail & Guardian on two seperate occasions, once for the cover of the Times, as well as a number of special edition cartoons of his for various newspapers including two Nelson Mandela tribute cartoons after he passed away, one of which was originally published when I was 14 years old.
